Zoe did not want to hear them anymore.

The sound of Avery and Elliot in the throes of passion mocked her. “So what if you’re Elliot’s girlfriend? He’ll always love Avery no matter what!” they seemed to say.

She sat on the sofa. She felt a part of her had died today, and she froze.

At 2 a.m. in the morning, the door to the bedroom finally swung open. Avery dragged herself out of the room. She froze when she saw Zoe.

“Miss Tate, how did my boyfriend fare?” Zoe’s voice trembled as she glared at Avery. “Miss Tate, I can’t believe that you were able to make your move on him in the twenty minutes that I was gone. You knew that he was drunk, and yet, you seduced him! Oh, you’re cheap!”

Avery tried to explain herself, but nothing made sense.

She could not believe that she was the other woman. It was hypocritical of her.

“I’m so sorry,” Avery said. “What’s the use of saying sorry?” Zoe felt a stream of tears run down the corner of her eyes. “At least, I only approached Elliot after your divorce. Miss, I have never hurt you before, what did I do for you to hurt me?!” cried Zoe.

“I’m sorry.” Avery walked to her and apologized once again.

“I’ll pretend nothing happened tonight. You can’t tell anyone about it, including him! I will tell him the same when he wakes up.” Zoe then proceeded to mock Avery by saying, “Who knows, he might not even remember anything. He was drunk after all.”

“Alright,” Avery said as she left.

She walked out of the room and felt the sharp chill of the wind. She hugged herself for warmth, looked up, and breathed deeply.

She felt confused and agonized. Yet she was not allowed to talk to anyone about it. Avery sat by the side of the road. She did not feel like going home, nor did she want to get a room at the hotel.

She decided that she would just sit here for the duration of the night. Tomorrow was a new day, and she could start afresh then.

The next morning at 8 a.m., in Room V906, Elliot got up with a pounding headache He had drunk too much. He looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings he found himself in, and he soon grew aware of the woman beside him.

A n***d woman with dark ebony hair. There was a mole on her shoulder blade. The mole stood out against her fair skin.

Elliot was confused. Who was the woman beside him? Avery did not have a mole on her back! He sat up and realized that he was n***d too. He slowly remembered what had happened last night.

Avery had come to him last night, and he could not restrain himself any longer, and they had intercourse.

Where was Avery?

He got off the bed and got dressed. As he was about to wake the woman beside him, Zoe woke up. She rubbed her eyes and smiled at him, “You got up? Why don’t you come here and get some sleep?”

Elliot was completely dumbstruck. He froze as his eyes filled with shock and disappointment!

Zoe? Had he mistaken Zoe for Avery?

“Elliot, what’s going on? Last night… you carried me to bed- I didn’t get in by myself…” As she covered herself with the sheets. She held it up with both her hands.

Elliot’s palm curled into a fist. He quietly uttered, “I’m sorry.”

He had mistaken Zoe for Avery. How could he have made such a huge mistake?

“Why are you apologizing? I’m your girlfriend, and you’re my boyfriend. This is something that would have taken place right?” said Zoe as she tried to squeeze out a few tears.

She felt a huge wave of relief course through her.

It appeared that Elliot had forgotten who he had spent the night with.

“Take that, Avery Tate! You’ve lost him forever!” she thought.
