Read When His Eyes Opened By Simple Silence Chapter 561
In Aryadelle, the weekend passed in a blink of an eye.
On Monday, Elliot arrived at the office. Chad followed him and entered his office.
“Yes?” Elliot switched his computer open. He looked up at Chad.
“Mr. Foster, is your phone not on?” Chad inquired cautiously. It was only after Chad had asked this question that Elliot realized that he did not have his phone with him. He had slept at home during the weekend, and though he had slept well, he still felt a little dizzy.
It was possible to experience dizziness if one did not get enough sleep, and sleeping too much would have the same effect too.
“Mr. Foster, this is what happened,” Chad gave Elliot a summary of the main events that had taken place over the weekend.
When Elliot heard the news, he had an expression of disbelief on his face.
“Go get the bodyguard to bring me my phone,” Elliot said to Chad. When Chad left, Elliot looked at his computer screen.
The headline for that day popped up, [President of Sterling Group, Elliot Foster, Cheated of 1.5 Billion!]
Although he had heard Chad’s breakdown of the article, he still clicked on the pop-up notification.
After reading the news, he rubbed the middle of his brow. He found it tolerable that they mocked his intelligence due to being blinded by love, but why did they have to call Avery a con-woman?!
“How absurd!” he thought.
News had been circulating on the internet for two days. It was too late for him to even begin to try and erase it. Everyone knew that he had spent one and a half billion dollars on Avery.
Even if he were to deny this rumor, most of the public would not believe him.
Elliot picked up the office phone on his desk and called the legal department. He told the lawyers to deal with the issue, and just when he was done, the bodyguard entered bearing his phone.
Elliot turned on his phone. Besides Chad and Ben, no one else was looking for him. He wondered whether Avery had seen the news. He also wondered what her reaction to the news was.
He looked for her contact. He wanted to call her, but he placed his phone down instead.
He did not release a press statement. There was nothing to be embarrassed about.
She told him to return to his old life, and that meant becoming a person who cared for nothing but work.
He had never bothered with the news. The only thing he was concerned about was his work. Today, he would not let it affect him.
Elliot exited the news webpage, opened his inbox, and started to work.
Avery awoke in Bridgedale to Tammy’s message. Apart from enquiring when she would return to Aryadelle, Tammy had also sent her an article about Elliot and her.
The first reaction she had when she saw the news was utter shock. She had not realized that he had spent that much on rescuing her. Her second reaction was one of sheer disbelief at being called a con-woman. “Me! A con-woman?!” she thought.
Avery was so stunned that she sat in bed for a long time as she tried to regain her bearings.
She only came to her senses when she heard Mike knocking on her door.
“Avery, are you feeling fine today?” Mike stood by the door and said, “If you don’t feel well, the children and I won’t head back to the Aryadelle today.”
When Avery heard that, she immediately got down from her bed.
“Mike, did you see the news in Aryadelle!” She strode to Mike and asked, “Did Elliot spend one and a half billion dollars to rescue me?!”
Mike scratched his head. “I don’t know how much he actually spent. He didn’t tell me the actual sum, but he did hire Yves Kant Security… This company is exorbitantly expensive. I’m sure it would cost around there!”
Avery blinked a couple of times. She pursed her lips tightly.
